Project Highlight #7
Client: Confidential
Location: Ohio
Duration: 12 months
Description: This year-long project had a contract value around $2 million dollars and necessitated multiple remediation technologies. Our in-situ treatment and clean-up objectives required U.S. Department of Energy evaluation, and involved the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in heavy clay soils by vapor-stripping (ambient air and hot-air injection), peroxidation, and grout injection. We used a track-mounted crane with a hollow-stemmed Kelly bar fixed to a proprietary auger to install overlapping soil-treatment columns. This yielded an effective mixing diameter of 3-14 ft., with treatment to depths exceeding 100 ft. The D.O.E. concluded our successful treatment was cost-effective and provided a reduction of 85 percent of VOCs.
