Project Highlight #6
Client: US Army Corps of Engineers
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Duration: 12 months
Description: An existing earthen levee had aged and leaked, allowing water to pass through, causing further damage to the levee and surroundings. The requirements of the $5 million project were to upgrade and strengthen the existing berm by mixing slurry consisting of soils, bentonite, and cement, then placing this mixture into a deep excavation down the centerline of the existing berm. Extreme caution had to be utilized to prevent trenching collapse or levee failure during the ongoing work.
